Napoli have brought in Goran Pandev and their next target is a defender with Salvatore Bocchetti and a new Juan the top candidates.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis explained ahead of last night's 3-1 friendly win over Palermo that Pandev's arrival from Inter had “become necessary after the Champions League draw.”
In a group with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Villarreal, pre-season games have shown frailties in the squad.
Victor Ruiz is all set to join Valencia, while Miguel Angel Britos picked up an injury that will keep him out for a couple of months.
Bocchetti was the primary target after revealing he was not happy at Rubin Kazan, especially as Napoli are his hometown club.
However, De Laurentiis put the brakes on this speculation by revealing “Neapolitans rarely do well in the Napoli shirt and I don't want them in the team.”
The other alternatives are to be found in Brazil, including 20-year-old Internacional defender Juan and Goias man Rafael Toloi.
