Fernando Gago doesn't believe he's joined Roma as a possible replacement for Daniele De Rossi.
The two players like to be fielded in front of the defence, but the Argentine is confident that the pair can co-exist in Luis Enrique's 4-3-3 system.
"I don't think De Rossi and myself play in the same role," the loan arrival from Real Madrid told Forza Roma.
"We have different characteristics that can actually complement each other. We'll just have to wait and see."
Gago, an Argentine international, moved to Italy yesterday after some hectic deadline day work from sporting director Walter Sabatini.
"I'm very happy to be here," he added. "I really liked the sound of the project and I accepted to be a part of it.
"Whether I will be assured of a place in the starting XI though will be up to the Coach to decide."
De Rossi, meanwhile, has still not signed a contract extension. His present agreement expires in June 2012.
