Rodrigo Palacio has had his Genoa contract improved after the club refused to sell him to Inter or Roma.
The Argentine was targeted by both Serie A giants, but the Rossoblu opted to keep him despite a reported €10m offer from the Nerazzurri.
"We have extended his contract by a year and have increased his salary," Marassi President Enrico Preziosi noted.
"It is a sacrifice that we were happy to make because the player was requested by some very important clubs.
"Keeping Palacio was a decision that we made because we were unable to find any suitable replacements for him."
Genoa were ready to swap Palacio for Goran Pandev, but the Macedonian snubbed the move ahead of his switch to Napoli last week.
