Only Serbia can catch Italy in Group C now, so a win over Slovenia on Tuesday will mathematically qualify them for Euro 2012.
The Azzurri took a big step towards the competition with their 1-0 victory against the Faroe Islands on Friday.
That same day, they had a boost by news the two closest competitors Slovenia and Northern Ireland lost on home turf to Estonia and Serbia respectively.
Cesare Prandelli's men have an eight-point lead at the top of Group C with three games to go, so only third-placed Serbia could theoretically catch them now.
Italy will book their ticket for Euro 2012 on Tuesday with a win over Slovenia or if Serbia do not beat the Faroe Islands.
Even if the Azzurri draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence next week, it will still take a remarkable upset for them to fumble qualification now.
Italy's remaining games are at home to Slovenia and Northern Ireland with a trip to Serbia on October 7.
