Gian Piero Gasperini thanked Inter for their work on the transfer market, even though “we never expected such an offer for Samuel Eto'o.”
The Nerazzurri reshuffled their squad after selling Eto'o to Anzhi for €27m, bringing in Diego Forlan and Mauro Zarate.
“It was a difficult transfer market, but I am happy. The club did what was possible to give me what I wanted and I thank them for the work done,” said the Coach.
“Some important players arrived and we have many options available to us. The leader of this squad is the group itself. It is unity that makes the difference.
“We never expected such an offer for Eto'o, even amid all the soap operas of the summer, but we always remained relaxed. We were able to make up for his loss by signing some very strong players.”
Both Forlan and Zarate were on target in their debut appearances for Inter on Saturday, an 11-1 win over the youth team that saw Diego Milito score five times.
“Even if they are essentially between ranks, these matches are important to find the right understanding between players. It's often better than an official friendly, because you can't see an improvement when making 10 substitutions.”
