New Fiorentina signing Cassani hopes to be introduced to his fans at the Stadio Franchi on Tuesday in Italy's Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia.
The full-back joined the Viola last week, but is yet to make his debut for the club. Curiously, he could play in their stadium anyway, as Florence hosts the Azzurri.
“I hope to be in the starting XI against Slovenia. It will be an incredible emotion to make my debut in front of my new fans, albeit wearing the Azzurri shirt,” said Cassani.
“I'd love to put in a great performance for Italy and win over my new supporters. We've got to take the right approach to Slovenia and not get caught up in the haste to secure qualification straight away.
“After all, we have only conceded one goal in qualifying so far and it's what great success is built on. The Coach asks us for tactical balance.”
A win, or simply matching Serbia's result against the Faroe Islands, will automatically qualify Cesare Prandelli's men for Euro 2012.
As for Cassani, he is looking forward to being part of the Fiorentina set-up and confirms he rejected a move to Lazio in June.
“Having kept hold of players like Alberto Gilardino, Riccardo Montolivo and Juan Manuel Vargas is very important. I did speak to Gilardino and Montolivo during international duty, but we're trying to focus on the game.
“It's true that I was close to Lazio, but then I chose Fiorentina.”
