Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini has suffered an early blow to the season with the loss of Thiago Motta to injury.
The Brazilian-born Italian international could be sidelined for as long as a month with a muscle problem.
The midfielder returned from Italy duty yesterday with a fitness issue and tests have confirmed that he's pulled a hamstring in his left thigh.
Motta started both of Italy's games against the Faroe Islands and Slovenia, but he was replaced at half-time in the latter tie.
Motta was expected to start for the Nerazzurri this weekend as they begin their Serie A campaign at Palermo.
The Nerazzurri are already set to be without central defender Cristian Chivu because of a sprained ankle.
