Attilio Tesser brings Novara into Serie A for the first time in 55 years, but expects Chievo to be “a tough nut to crack.”
The Coach has been in charge during back-to-back promotions from Lega Pro to the top flight of Italian football and now aims to consolidate this remarkable ascent.
“There is starting to be a little tension among the lads, as this will be a real test of where we are,” said Tesser.
“Up until now we have proved that we deserve to be in Serie A, as we have our own identity and must not lose sight of that. We have the utmost respect for our opponents, but the important thing is what we do.”
Novara begin with a relegation scrap at the Stadio Bentegodi against Chievo, who were once fellow shock figures in Serie A.
“For the past 10 years Chievo have been almost always in the top flight and the club is run very wisely. They made good investments over the summer and will target something more than safety this season.
“It is a solid squad and Sergio Pellissier certainly stands out as their danger man, though there are other talents. I'm sure Domenico Di Carlo studied us to prepare for this game, so they'll be a tough nut to crack.”
Riccardo Meggiorini and Pablo Granoche start up front, while the Coach admits he still has to decide between Simone Pesce and Luigi Giorgi in midfield. Marco Rigoni sits out a ban.
