Esteban Cambiasso believes a lack of preparation time was a factor in Inter's 4-3 loss at Palermo on Sunday.
The Nerazzurri were surprisingly defeated in an opening day stunner at the Stadio Barbera in Sicily.
"I'm not the sort who usually looks for excuses," the Argentine midfield enforcer noted after the encounter.
"I think boss Gian Piero Gasperini had one big problem, though, and that is that he was only able to meet us all together for training for a couple of days.
"Don't forget that the Copa America was right in the middle of all of this and then the transfer market brought us changes right at the very end.
"These are factors that influence things too."
Inter actually took the lead in the tie, but they were eventually defeated by an inspirational Fabrizio Miccoli who scored twice.
"This defeat really burns and so it should," added the former Real Madrid man. "We had settled down on the pitch and then Miccoli turned on the magic and changed things.
"Losing always hurts and not just today because it was the first day of the season," he continued.
"If you could choose who you were going to play in the first match, there's no way you would pick Palermo in that sort of form.
"Obviously we aren't happy, but there's no point in crying about it."
Had it not been for the Serie A strike, Inter would have began the campaign with a home game against Lecce.
