Cesare Prandelli confirms he dropped Alberto Gilardino from Italy's recent Euro 2012 qualifiers for violating "the code of ethics.”
The Azzurri Coach introduced the code last year and has already frozen out Daniele De Rossi for one game after his Roma red card for violent conduct.
Many expected Gilardino to play against Slovenia when Italy were hosted by ‘his' Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, but the Fiorentina striker was in the stands.
“When he was with the Nazionale last time, Alberto did not seem relaxed,” explained Prandelli.
“He talked about his relationship with his club during a very important moment for Italy's campaign.
“We created this code of ethics and it must be observed when coming to wear the Azzurri jersey.”
Gilardino had been repeatedly asked about his situation towards the end of the transfer window and criticised Fiorentina for not taking him off the market.
