Former Inter stopper Riccardo Ferri believes a 4-3-1-2 system would be the best tactical solution for the Nerazzurri.
New boss Gian Piero Gasperini arrived at the club with a 3-4-3 solution which hasn't convinced onlookers or delivered results.
After experimenting with a 4-3-3 against Trabzonspor on Wednesday, Ferri believes they should revert to a shape that suits their characteristics.
"Gasperini has to carefully evaluate the players that he has at his disposal," Ferri, who spent 13 years with the club, told the Corriere dello Sport.
"The 4-3-1-2 module is the ideal one with Wesley Sneijder playing behind Diego Milito and Diego Forlan or behind Diego Forlan and Giampaolo Pazzini."
The Nerazzurri have lost all three competitive games under Gasperini. They entertain struggling Roma at San Siro on Saturday.
