Sinisa Mihajlovic insists he “will make the decision” on whether to field Riccardo Montolivo against Udinese after a blazing row with Fiorentina.
This morning Viola President Mario Cognini announced contract talks had definitively broken down and, although still in the squad, Montolivo is “no longer a Fiorentina player. This farce is over.”
They face a very important clash with Udinese on Sunday and the club has pledged not to pressure Mihajlovic on this issue.
“I am not particularly worried by the club's decision on Montolivo,” insisted Mihajlovic.
“I am the Coach, so I will make the decision on whether or not he plays. I will certainly take him into consideration to start if I see him in the right physical and psychological form.”
Fiorentina opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Bologna, while Udinese beat Lecce in Serie A and then Rennes in the Europa League on Thursday.
“Now we must face Udinese, who are truly an excellent side. I always want to field the players who can give me the most guarantees. We can only win in Udine by being combative right from the start.”
Fiorentina squad: Behrami, Boruc, Cassani, Cerci, De Silvestri, Gamberini, Gilardino, Jovetic, Kharja, Lazzari, Ljajic, Montolivo, Munari, Nastasic, Natali, Neto, Pasqual, Pazzagli, Romulo, Silva, Vargas
