Massimo Ficcadenti is sure Cagliari “fully deserve” to be top of the table for the first time in 41 years.
The Sardinians have a 100 per cent record after two rounds, putting them on a par with Napoli, Juventus and Udinese.
“Are we trying to keep our feet on the ground? Whatever for? Being top of the table is a wonderful thing,” smiled the Coach.
“We played the way we wanted to and entertained the fans. We fully deserve to be in first place.”
Cagliari hadn't looked down on the rest of Serie A since October 1970, when the legendary Gigi Riva was still celebrating their Scudetto victory a few months earlier.
It is a particular surprise considering Roberto Donadoni was sacked just a month before the season began, bringing in Ficcadenti as a late replacement.
Their next match is on Wednesday evening against Palermo, who had beaten Inter only to fall 1-0 away to Atalanta.
“When you win, everything feels like it is going well, so you don't even feel fatigue.”
