Devis Mangia has tasted victory and defeat in his brief Serie A career, but demands “the real Palermo” against Cagliari.
The Coach was promoted from the youth team just 10 days before the season kicked off and made his debut beating Inter 4-3, but fell 1-0 away to Atalanta at the weekend.
“It was a below par performance compared to the one against Inter, but we can still learn from this game and improve,” said Mangia ahead of tonight's match.
“We were not aggressive enough. I always try to see the positive and negative aspects of a performance and we were certainly not out-classed.
“Cagliari are an excellent squad and they haven't got a 100 per cent record by accident. They are organised and dynamic, but above all a team unit that allows its individuals to shine within that framework.”
Mangia might have to adjust his tactics due to the Edgar Alvarez thigh strain that rules the winger out for a couple of weeks.
“We need the real Palermo, to play the way we know how. We're without Alvarez and I could make tactical changes because of that, or I could change nothing at all. It's only right to work on alternatives, but I don't want to confuse the team.”
Josip Ilicic was particularly uninspired on Sunday and the Coach confessed he'd had a word with the Slovenian.
“I expect more from Ilicic, but then I expect more from everybody. I don't know if he'll start or be on the bench. Josip is an important player, like the other 26 in my squad.”
