Byron Moreno, the referee who controversially oversaw Italy's 2002 World Cup exit, has been jailed for heroin-smuggling.
The Ecuadorian official famously took charge of the 2-1 defeat to hosts South Korea in extra time, decided by an Ahn Jung Hwan Golden Goal.
Moreno was arrested at New York's JFK Airport in September last year after flying in from Ecuador with bags of heroin strapped to his body.
Court documents confirm he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on heroin-smuggling charges.
The 41-year-old's career ended in shame back in Ecuador in 2003 when he was given a 20-game ban for adding 12 minutes of stoppages to a match and not including it in his report.
