Aurelio De Laurentiis has declared he intends to redevelop the Stadio San Paolo, rather than build a new stadium, to maintain Napoli's history.
The President has led the club from the brink of extinction to the Champions League in seven years, and has revealed what he intends to do on the stadium, and why.
"The San Paolo should not be demolished because it is a part of the history of Napoli. It is an important story, part of Maradona's past. Even if we [won] today, certain moments from the past would remain.
"We must change the Fuorigrotta neighbourhood whilst leaving the structure intact, on which there would be three months in summer to work on it.
"We work in that area and build a city within a city. Football and therefore the San Paolo are a symbol of a city that works."
