"Lazio are the side of today, Roma are the team of tomorrow," stated Delio Rossi ahead of the Rome derby.
The former Biancocelesti boss made the claim to the Corriere dello Sport as the two teams prepare for this weekend's capital clash.
"I don't think that it will be a tactical game," Rossi noted in an interview. "I'm convinced that both sides will go out to try to win the game.
"We're only at the beginning of the season and there is no real League table pressure to contend with.
"I'm expecting an open game."
Both clubs were very active in the transfer market over the summer, but they showcased different buying philosophies.
"Lazio are ahead of Roma, they are more proven as a team right now," continued the ex-Palermo Coach.
"They kept hold of their tactician and then signed players which boss Edy Reja requested.
"However, the future belongs to Roma. They are a younger outfit. To summarise, Lazio are the side of today, Roma are the team of tomorrow."
Roma and Lazio are level in the standings thanks to their eight points from five games.
