Inter President Massimo Moratti has reassured Anzhi that he does “not know anything about” a Samuel Eto'o return.
The media in Russia and Italy was lit up today by reports Eto'o will come to San Siro in January and February, when the Russian Premier League is on its winter break.
“I was away until today, so do not know anything about this Eto'o story,” declared Moratti to journalists.
“I read the newspapers and saw a very aggressive reaction from the Russian club, but they should know it's all news to me. I have not discussed anything with Eto'o, so...
“Would I like the idea? It's a bit strange, but I tend to respect the agreements made with his club.
“Of course it's pleasing that the player would gladly like to return with us, but I think it's pointless talking about it, because in all honesty I know less than you do.
“We absolutely did not discuss the possibility of a loan during his transfer negotiations.
“The squad is very fond of Eto'o, but I repeat there is no point talking about this because it is 90 per cent unlikely to happen. I have no basis to comment on.”
