Captain Javier Zanetti believes that Inter proved a point on Tuesday with a Champions League win at Lille.
Giampaolo Pazzini netted the only goal of the night to get the Nerazzurri back on track after two successive Serie A defeats.
"I think our squad really showed what they could do tonight, showing great character and sacrifice after losing two consecutive matches in the League," he told Inter Channel.
"Winning tonight was by no means easy, especially here, but these hard-earned victories, where the spirit of the team shines through, are very important."
The Beneamata have had a pretty disastrous start to the 2011-12 campaign, but the Argentine is looking to the future with optimism.
"It's not so important to think about where we are in the League at this stage, we should look ahead," he said.
"I think the fans know what we're going through and that we're coming through it now together – just as we won today, from now on we'll all need to pull together. We need to stick together and react.
"This was a victory we needed, we suffered quite a bit to get there, but showed great character in doing so."
Last night's encounter was also Zanetti's 100th appearance in European competition for the club.
