Massimo Ficcadenti still can’t quite believe Cagliari sacked him to bring in Davide Ballardini. “We’re in ninth place!”
The Coach was only drafted in during August when Roberto Donadoni was surprisingly axed, but President Massimo Cellino chopped and changed again just a day after declaring the job was safe.
“It’s incredible,” declared Ficcadenti. “We’re in ninth place! The team was playing well and we didn’t deserve to lose against Atalanta.
“I did not expect this, as in the afternoon I held the training session, as usual. But I am relaxed, as I think that I did a good job and there’s nothing I could’ve done better.
“Evidently there was not a good feeling between the President and me. Maybe there never was.”
Cagliari had their best start to a season since the 1970s, but two consecutive defeats to Lazio and Atalanta proved fatal for Ficcadenti’s reign.
