Inter chief Massimo Moratti has made it clear what he expects his struggling club to achieve this season after another loss.
The Nerazzurri are in 16th place right now after losing 1-0 at home to Udinese in Serie A on Saturday night.
Boss Claudio Ranieri had previously insisted that the side could still win the Scudetto, but the gap between themselves and leaders Juventus has now increased to 15 points.
“We have to end the season in the Champions League places,” Moratti is quoted as saying in the Gazzetta dello Sport. “That is an absolute must.”
Only Italy’s top three sides will qualify for next season’s European Cup. Milan and Udinese, who also occupy the positions right now, are 13 points clear of the San Siro giants.
In their 12 League games so far this season, Inter have won four, drawn two and lost six times.
In September, President Moratti replaced Gian Piero Gasperini with Ranieri just months into the former Genoa man’s Stadio Meazza stint.
