Former Serie A mainstays Piacenza, founded in 1919, have officially filed for bankruptcy.
The Stadio Garilli club had suffered from financial problems recently, exacerbated by their relegation into Lega Pro.
The players have not received their wages for five months, so today the lawyers representing the Players’ Association confirmed Piacenza are filing for bankruptcy.
It is not necessarily the end for the club, as the title will now be put up for auction, but if nobody steps in then Piacenza Calcio could disappear.
The Biancorossi were regulars in the top flight until their relegation in 2002-03 and last summer they dropped down into Lega Pro after losing the play-out to Albinoleffe.
