Italian Federation chief Giancarlo Abete saw 2011 as a very positive year for Italian football. “We’re the only nation with three Champions League teams left.”
Napoli, Milan and Inter have all progressed to the final 16, while Spain and England only have two representatives in the knockouts.
“I believe 2011 was a very positive year for Italian football,” Abete told Radio Goal.
“The Nazionale qualified for Euro 2012 and we still have five teams in European club competition.
“Milan, Inter and Napoli did well to reach the last 16 of the Champions League and it is good to remind everyone we’re the only nation with three teams left.
“I hope that 2012 can be very satisfying, especially for Cesare Prandelli’s Italy squad.”
