Luis Enrique hopes for revenge over Fiorentina as he prepares his Roma team for their Last 16 Coppa Italia clash this midweek.
The Giallorossi fell to a 3-0 League defeat in Florence at the start of December in a game that saw three Roma players sent off. Since then, though, Roma have not lost in four and now prepare to welcome Delio Rossi’s side to the capital for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia clash.
Speaking ahead of this week’s match, Spanish Coach Enrique admitted that the defeat to La Viola is best considered a turning point to the Giallorossi’s season. However, in targeting a continuation of his team’s good form, is keen to remind the players of how much it hurt at the time.
“Tomorrow night we will play with the League match in mind. I like the attitude I am seeing from the team, even if I also liked it in Florence. I am confident and I expect the team to improve.
“[The defeat to Fiorentina] is indelible and is a bitter memory. Remembering what happened at the Franchi can serve as extra motivation.”
Enrique also revealed that his ambition is to make the most of the knockout competition.
“The Coppa Italia is an exciting competition for us, it is not a problem. We want to win this game.
“Can we win the trophy? Why not? Looking at the way we are playing I would say yes.
“My mind will not let me think about a future too far away, though. We have to take it game by game. It will not be easy due to the schedule, but we will try.”
