Lorenzo Insigne has praised the influence of Zdenek Zeman in helping him break into Italy’s Under-21 team and confirmed that he intends to play for Napoli one day.
The youngster’s form this season in playing under Zeman at Pescara has seen him earn a call-up to Ciro Ferrara’s recent squads. The Napoli-born attacking midfielder was involved in the Azzurrini meet-up this week and was on the scoresheet in the team’s 3-0 friendly win over Serie D side Ischia.
“I owe so much to Zeman,” enthused the player after the game. “He has helped me grow so much and thanks to him I have broken into the Italian Under-21 set-up.”
Such has been his form, Insigne has been linked with a January switch back to parent club Napoli, or even a move to another club, with Udinese rumoured to be interested.
“My future? I know nothing. Everyone knows that as a Neapolitan to play in that shirt is a dream, but I want the best finish this season with Pescara and next year we’ll see.
“I’m young and I have to play first, before I have big dreams.”
