After helping their respective sides to important wins, players from Lecce, Juventus and Lazio all make Dave Taylor’s Team of the Week.
Massimiliano Benassi [Lecce]
The Lone Ranger was in jaw-dropping form with some seemingly nailed on goals blocked, pushed out and tipped over the bar. At his very best he palmed Walter Samuel’s header and twice pulled off planet-stopping saves to prevent Giampaolo Pazzini scoring. Buffon-like.
Massimo Oddo [Lecce]
The veteran Milanista was as gameas a banty rooster but had a tough job closing down Diego Milito and Pazzini yet withstood the pressure. Got down the right flank and put in the perfect cross for Guillermo Giacomazzi's goal. Popescu-like.
Andrea Barzagli [Juventus]
Fought like a cocky coyote to keep the Udinese forwards, especially Almen Abdi, well away from the spoils. Made several crucial blocks including a superb tackle on Antonio Di Natale and was a defensive rock. Ferrara-like.
Gabriel Heinze [Roma]
Showed age has not dulled his anticipation as he dry gulched several dangerous moves before they could develop any further. Kept pushing forward and made some gorgeous passes both short and long. Cafu-like.
Ezequiel Matias Schelotto [Atalanta]
Made the right flank his own and was unstoppable with constant running, the odd mazy dribble and a couple of serious attempts on goal. Sent over several dangerous crosses, one of which forced Marco Rossi's own goal. Lentini-like.
Andrea Pirlo [Juventus]
A top performance and even got off a couple of strikes. Intelligent running on and off the ball, he played his part in the midfield tussle and pushed it in Juve's direction when it could have gone either way. Pirlo-like.
Was at the heart of all of Lazio's best moves and someone to ride the river with. Scored the opener at the back post and would have scored another if not for 'keeper Stefano Sorrentino bravely diving at his feet. Gazza-like.
Guillermo Giacomazzi [Lecce]
Held his own in a crowded midfield and had to fight like a Kilkenny Cat at times but crowned a top display when he cleverly controlled Oddo's cross to power the ball past Julio Cesar. Conte-like.
Alessandro Matri [Juventus]
It's hard to beat Samir Handanovic but Mitra-Matri performed like a greased machine-gun to score twice. He pounced like a vulture for the first, while his control and spin a la Zidane, saw him slot home his second. Vialli-like.
Miroslav Klose [Lazio]
The Man of the Match popped up everywhere, even into midfield to get the ball. He may be 33 but twice made a shave tail out of Marco Andreolli, 10 years his junior, to score two superb goals. Signori-like.
Rodrigo Palacio [Genoa]
Bought the ticket and took the ride twice, thanks to two fabulous assists from the excellent Alberto Gilardino. His first was an unstoppable Exocet into the top corner while his second was a well placed shot from an angle. Skuhravy-like.
