Francesco Guidolin hopes to continue Udinese’s amazing campaign against Fiorentina on Sunday, “but our objective is to stay up there as long as possible.”
The Friulani sold Alexis Sanchez over the summer, but are still in third place and have reached the Europa League knockouts.
“We’ve got to have the right concentration against Fiorentina, as this is never an easy game,” warned the Coach.
“The Viola are a side to be feared with players who can make the difference. Playing in Florence is never a simple affair and if we are to come home with a positive result, then we cannot leave anything to chance.”
There are some injury concerns, as Dusan Basta and Maurizio Domizzi are not 100 per cent fit.
“Not counting the players on Africa Cup of Nations duty, we should have Mehdi Benatia back and hopefully Domizzi can step on to the field. Basta did not train well this week, so we’ll wait and see.
“Our objective this season is to stay up there as long as possible. We are doing well despite the difficulties and so hope to continue like this.”
Udinese squeezed past Lecce 2-1 on Wednesday in one of the few Serie A games not affected by the weather.
“The first step towards resolving this issue would be to modernise the stadiums, but that is not enough,” argued Guidolin.
“I think it is also important to reduce the number of teams in the League from 20 to 18.”
