Fiorentina boss Delio Rossi is hoping that tomorrow’s opponents Napoli will have their minds on next week’s Champions League tie with Chelsea.
The Viola play host to the Azzurri on Friday night and the tactician admits they may be advantaged by Napoli’s European commitments.
“They have the Champions League and it is not easy for a side, who are not used to that competition, to manage these situations,” the tactician noted on Thursday.
“However, they are stronger this season than last and they can make quality changes. Napoli are better than us, but we can have our say in the game.”
One of the biggest threats tomorrow night will be posed by Edinson Cavani, the Uruguayan who Rossi knows very well.
“He’s a modern attacker and not just a centre-forward,” Rossi continued. “He did well with me at Palermo, but now he is even better.
“You find him all over the pitch and he’s hard to pick up. He’s also more composed in front of goal than he was.”
As well as Cavani, Napoli owe their recent success to former Reggina and Sampdoria tactician Walter Mazzarri.
“I know Walter and he’s done great things for Napoli. He has given them soul, organisation and the results speak for themselves.”
Rossi had his initial difficulties after he replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic in Tuscany, but the Viola could make it three wins in a row with another victory.
“The side is in good physical shape,” he continued. “They’ve improved a lot. I’ve always said that this team had great quality and that they just needed to form a united and compact group.
“We need sacrifices to be made out there and we are on the right road. Once we start to give up we hit difficulties.”
The Viola boss added that Valon Behrami and Stevan Jovetic are fit enough to play against the San Paolo boys.
