Friendship is stopping Napoli from making a bid for Fiorentina ace Stevan Jovetic, says Azzurri chief Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The Montenegro international is one of Serie A’s brightest talents and his name has been paired with the Stadio San Paolo outfit.
However, owner De Laurentiis has insisted that he won’t be making an offer for the versatile attacking midfielder.
“If I didn’t have so much respect for my friends, the Della Valle family [who own Fiorentina], then I would be asking them on a daily basis to sell me Jovetic,” he told Radio Blu.
“He is a talented player with a long future ahead of him. None of us should move to take great players away from each other.”
The two teams will actually come face-to-face in Tuscany this evening so that Napoli will have extra time to prepare for their game against Chelsea in the Champions League.
“It’s an important tie tonight between two sides with great histories,” the movie mogul continued.
“I think it will be an exciting encounter because Fiorentina are improving and they, like us, have an extraordinary Coach.”
Napoli are bossed by Walter Mazzarri, while Delio Rossi replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic at the Stadio Franchi earlier in the campaign.
