Inter captain Javier Zanetti says he would welcome the proposed appointment of Leonardo as the club's new Coach.
The former Milan player and boss is being tipped to be handed control after Rafael Benitez's dismissal this week.
And although his Rossoneri past does pose a problem to some sections of the support, Argentine Zanetti respects the Brazilian.
"I know Leonardo well," the veteran stated. "He is a very intelligent person, someone who is always on the ball.
"He has a lot to give as a Coach thanks to the experiences he gathered as a player and as a man."
Benitez left the club yesterday after it is believed that Inter agreed to pay him €3m in order to rescind his contract.
Leonardo has refused to comment on the links with the Nerazzurri, stating that "he knows nothing" of the reports.
Meanwhile, Inter legend Walter Zenga has this morning become another candidate to replace Benitez at San Siro.
