Claudio Ranieri is hoping that Inter’s game against Chievo could be the turning point of their problematic campaign.
The Nerazzurri are in crisis after picking up just two points from the last 21 on offer in Serie A, but the tactician is remaining optimistic.
“It has been a bad season, but we want to play until the end,” he noted. “We are all performing under par so we have to give more.
“Chievo know how to play football and they showed that in Turin [on Sunday in the 1-1 draw with Juventus]. If we win then it will be a good omen, we have 70 days to turn this situation around!”
There is increasing pressure on Ranieri as the rumour mill suggests that the club are already thinking about replacing him.
“We’re in Italy…” Ranieri responded when asked how he felt to see other Coaches linked with his job.
“I’m OK, you’ll get to know me as the years pass by, I’ll show you what I feel inside. I’m determined, charged up, it’ll just take a little bit more determination for the wheel to turn around.”
Inter avoided another defeat last weekend when they came from behind to salvage a point against Catania.
“I hope we don’t feel the pressure. We came back from two goals down on Sunday and we have to take that as a positive sign and continue from that.
“It’s not easy for the players, it’s crazy that great players find themselves in this situation, but this is a stupendous squad.”
The tactician also backed Esteban Cambiasso, the Argentine who got emotional last weekend after being jeered by the home fans.
“I’m not surprised by the tears of Cambiasso. I haven’t seen the images, but I know how much he loves this shirt. He’s given a lot to Inter. He’s an intelligent lad and I’m not shocked by his reaction.”
Ranieri added that he expects Giampaolo Pazzini and Wesley Sneijder to rediscover some form. “I’m sure that they will return to their highest levels.”
The Coach has named a 20-man squad for the Verona trip, but Ricky Alvarez hasn’t been included. “I think he should be available for the game against Marseille.”
