Walter Mazzarri warns he’ll have to rotate the increasingly tired Napoli squad against Catania. “It’s the last step and we need our fans.”
The Partenopei reached the Coppa Italia Final by beating Siena 2-0 on Wednesday night and take on the Sicilians on Sunday.
“The fans really helped us out against Siena and we need them to fire us up once more in a very difficult match with Catania,” said the Coach.
“I saw my team looking very tired and tomorrow’s game is the last step in a long run of high-profile games that used up a lot of physical and psychological energy. Then there will be a little time to work and focus on the next tests.
“This is why the supporters must keep us going to the last minute. I will change something, because I have to be wary of potential injuries. Andrea Dossena? He struggled with Camilo Zuniga’s explosion on to the scene, but is in good shape and will react to his recent poor performances.”
Mazzarri is unlikely to rest Edinson Cavani, who continues to be a key figure for Napoli.
“He dragged us on against Siena. His strength is his character, as he is always hungry, even when he seems to be on an off day. You can tell the difference since he’s been at Napoli.”
The Partenopei held Udinese to a 2-2 draw last week and are still in the running for a Champions League qualifying spot.
“There are still 30 points up for grabs and we can do well. We’ll see where we end up. I don’t think this is the right moment to look at what the others are doing, as we must focus only on our own results. It depends only on us and our performances.”
Napoli legend Diego Armando Maradona praised Mazzarri’s side in the Gazzetta dello Sport this morning.
“It was very pleasing that such a big personality said such nice things. I thank him and hope to meet him soon.”
