Vincenzo Montella is in pole position to replace Walter Mazzarri at Napoli should the latter leave at the end of the season.
According to Mediaset, the former Roma striker is at the top of the ambitious club’s shortlist of possible replacements.
Although Mazzarri is tied to the outfit until 2013, he is being linked with an exit at the end of the campaign. Inter and Lazio have been paired with the Tuscan.
Montella himself has cooled links with Napoli, but the ex-Roma boss impressed at the San Paolo this weekend when his side collected a 2-2 draw.
The former Italian international, still only 37, was actually born in the province of Naples. He joined Catania in the summer on a two-year deal.
