Valon Behrami believes Fiorentina were right to axe director of sport Pantaleo Corvino. “He got it wrong in January.”
The transfer guru was widely blamed for the poor campaign and was told his contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of the season.
“We needed reinforcements in January and they did not arrive. If we are in this situation then it’s also because there were mistakes on the transfer market and it’s only right for those who got it wrong to take responsibility,” Behrami told Radio Blu.
“I think it was the right decision to separate, even if he always behaved well with me. The fans can’t wait for this year to end and that disappoints me, because it’s a shame to have had a campaign like this.”
Behrami was also asked about a big January transfer story, when he seemed close to joining rivals Juventus.
“There was the possibility of moving, but for me the story is over. I am happy to have stayed at Fiorentina and never thought of leaving, even if results aren’t going well.
“My family and I are happy in Florence. For the future, we’ll see what choices the club and new director of sport make.”
