Inter had the opportunity to sign Kaka before Milan netted his signature in the summer of 2003, Gabriele Oriali has revealed.
The now former Nerazzurri official actually flew out to South America to hold talks with the Sao Paulo youngster, but no deal was done.
“At the time, we at Inter were close to him,” Oriali has declared. “It was before our city rivals Milan got to him.
“Myself and Inter President Massimo Moratti travelled to Brazil so that we could talk to him, but nothing was agreed.
“There was no particular reason why things stalled, it was simply a case that talks never continued after that.”
The attacking midfielder spent six glorious years on the other side of San Siro before his 2009 move to Real Madrid.
He won the 2007 Golden Ball while with the Diavolo, as well as the Champions League.
