Massimiliano Allegri has demanded an improvement from his Milan players for the rest of the season, to forget a ‘disunited’ performance against Bologna.
The Rossoneri dropped two more points in the Sunday afternoon draw to Stefano Pioli’s side, which coupled with Juventus’ win over Roma, saw the Milanese lose further ground in the title race.
Preparing to welcome struggling Genoa to San Siro on Wednesday night, Allegri has admitted that the team must make a change.
“The last performance fell short. We have also made technical errors recently,” the Coach reflected in his conference today.
“It is true that we are not as bright as a month ago, but there should be no excuses. Against Bologna we became a little disunited after they scored. We need to limit our mistakes, we must improve and be more skilled as a team.
“We are Milan, we are three points behind, Juventus are favoured now, however, there are five games still to play and we have to think about coming back to win the Scudetto.
“We still have targets, we must do our best for the League title and to earn more points than we did last season.
“Reasons for this decline? The injuries, other setbacks, some decisions that have penalised us. There are many things we will add to that at the end of the season.”
The Coach was asked about the title race - Juve need four victories from their remaining five games to win the Scudetto.
“We must not think about Juventus winning, but only about ourselves. Tomorrow we play at the same time, we have to think about securing the points and then evaluating things at the end.”
Allegri was also grilled on speculation that he could leave in the summer.
“Since these are assumptions I question the need to talk about them now. I want to think only about these five games, then the club will evaluate these things.
“I will play out the championship until its end, everything else does not need consideration right now.
“I have not thought about where I may have gone wrong, I will do so after May 13 with my staff, when we analyse the entire season, as is usual at the end of a season.
“But, I repeat that these five games are most important right now.”
