Milan have chosen Stephan El Shaarawy and Urby Emanuelson to take on troubled Genoa under new Coach Gigi De Canio.
The last few weeks have been chaotic for these two clubs, as the Rossoneri went from four points clear at the top of the Serie A table to three adrift of Juventus.
Kevin-Prince Boateng returns to the squad after three weeks out, but the injury crisis intensifies as Alexandre Pato, Robinho, Seedorf, Philippe Mexes, Massimo Ambrosini, Thiago Silva, Gianluca Zambrotta and Pippo Inzaghi are out along with the suspended Daniele Bonera.
El Shaarawy is given a very rare start alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Emanuelson.
Genoa’s game with Siena was suspended for 40 minutes on Sunday when fans protested and demanded they take off their jerseys, as the players were “unworthy” of the club colours.
That 4-1 home defeat also prompted the decision to fire Alberto Malesani for the second time this season, bringing in De Canio.
The new Coach had only two days to prepare for this match at San Siro, further dented by a training ground fight between Giuseppe Sculli and Bosko Jankovic.
Giandomenico Mesto and captain Marco Rossi sit out bans, while Alberto Gilardino is left on the bench. Bizarrely, Sculli is used as a right-back in a completely revamped formation.
Milan: Abbiati; Abate, Nesta, Yepes, Antonini; Nocerino, Van Bommel, Muntari; Emanuelson; El Shaarawy, Ibrahimovic
Genoa: Frey; Sculli, Granqvist, Kaladze, Moretti; Birsa, Kucka, Jankovic, Biondini, Belluschi; Palacio
