There is increasing speculation that Genoa are about to launch a bid to sign Cagliari's highly rated striker Alessandro Matri.
The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Milan of late, but their decision to bring in Antonio Cassano appears to have put paid to his big move.
Matri has scored eight goals in 17 appearances for Cagliari this season and earned repute by equaling a record held by Gigi Riva in the last campaign.
Sport Mediaset understands Genoa President Enrico Preziosi is prepared a bid for him after falling out with Luca Toni.
Preziosi had slated the veteran striker in the Press and he is now considering his future after just six months at Marassi.
Cagliari reportedly want €12m for Matri, but the deal apparently depends on whether Toni would consent to an exchange.
