Vincenzo Montella insists the campaign will be one to remember even if Catania lose their final games to Roma and Udinese.
“Our championship can’t be ruined now,” stated the tactician on Friday. “We have two left to play, but our season has been exciting.”
Catania have been one of the campaign’s revelation sides, even if their recent results have been a little disappointing.
“We’ve always battled and we want to get to 50 points,” he said with his team three shy of that target. “We want to win our final matches.
“We are motivated and we are not looking for excuses, but the League table doesn’t lie about the strength of the other teams.”
Montella joined Catania in the summer from Roma, the club his side will be facing tomorrow in Serie A.
“I know that stadium well,” he continued. “It could never be just another game for me, but I have to think about my team.”
Montella’s success this term has seen his name linked with a summer move to the likes of Lazio, Napoli and Inter.
“There is a lot of talk about my future, but they are just rumours. I’m focused on doing well with Catania and I’ll always be thankful for the opportunity they gave me.”
