Fiorentina youngster Luca Lazzerini has been called up by Italy boss Cesare Prandelli to help in training this week.
Prandelli has named a 32-man preliminary squad for Euro 2012 which includes four goalkeepers.
However, only Emiliano Viviano of Palermo is available to start training with the set-up given the club commitments of the three others.
Juventus’ Gigi Buffon, Morgan De Sanctis of Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain’s Salvatore Sirigu won’t join up with the rest of the squad until next week.
As a result, Prandelli has asked Lazzerini, still just 17, to act as cover for the trio until they are at the disposal of the squad.
“It was a great feeling when I got the call because it was so unexpected,” stated the goalkeeper who was born in Rome.
“I’ll look to learn as much as possible from the champions in the squad. I thank Fiorentina and my teammates for helping me grow.
“Buffon is an idol for all young Italian goalkeepers, he’s the very best and a complete goalkeeper. He’s also humble and polite.
“My dream? To become a Serie A player and hopefully one day appear for Fiorentina.”
Lazzerini will leave the squad once one of the three goalkeepers arrives at Coverciano.
