Roma have already made an approach to Genoa for Alexander Merkel after it was confirmed that he was leaving Milan.
The Rossoneri yesterday revealed that they had agreed to sell their 50 per cent share in him to Genoa, the club they co-owned him with.
The Corriere dello Sport claims today that Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is a fan of the 20-year-old.
Merkel impressed at Genoa this season during his 13 League games, before he move to Milan in January in a bid to solve their injury crisis.
However, the German played just three games for the Rossoneri.
As part of the Merkel deal, Milan now own Stephan El Shaarawy outright.
