Palermo are due to meet representatives of Serie B leaders Novara to discuss the prospect of signing Pablo Andres Gonzalez.
The 25-year-old Argentine striker has lit up the Cadetto this season, scoring 11 goals in 20 games and is attracting a lot of interest both in Italy and abroad.
Palermo have made a habit of scouring Serie B for goal scorers. They plucked Mauricio Pinilla from Grosseto in the summer after he struck 24 times in 24 matches last season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that a meeting is about to take place, although it remains to be seen whether Palermo agree to Novara's asking price for Gonzalez, which is said to be around €5m.
If the deal breaks down, Palermo will think further about using Massimo Maccarone ask a bargaining chip either for Juventus striker Amauri or Sampdoria's Nicola Pozzi.
