Ciro Ferrara hopes Italy can defeat the Republic of Ireland to secure qualification for the Under-21 European Championships.
The Azzurrini face the Irish on Monday at the Showgrounds Stadium in Sligo. They are currently top of Group 7 with five wins out of five, whereas Ireland have three points from four games.
“Ireland can’t afford to get anything wrong, but we have no intention of failing such an important game in such a delicate period for Italian football,” said the Coach.
Ferrara was asked whether the Under-21 side can help bring enthusiasm back to fans shaken by Italy’s 3-0 defeat to Russia and the betting scandal.
“We hope to bring a moment of calm to the country as well as good football and results.”
