Thiago Motta is carrying an injury, so there are reports Riccardo Montolivo will start for a revamped Italy against England tomorrow.
The Azzurri have already used a 3-5-2 and a 4-3-1-2 system in Euro 2012 so far, but could adjust again for the Sunday evening quarter-final in Kiev.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this will give Montolivo the opportunity to shine in a trequartista role.
The former Fiorentina man, who joined Milan on a free transfer this month, has struggled to make his mark so far in the tournament and could be physically out-matched by the England midfield.
Another option would be Antonio Nocerino, who despite being Milan’s second top scorer in Serie A this season has yet to make an appearance at Euro 2012.
Nocerino is a grittier figure in the middle of the park and also provides a drive forward to support the strikers.
