Roma have tied up a deal for Brazilian midfielder Marquinho, signing the Fluminense man for a total fee of €3.5m.
The versatile attacker, who can also play wing-back, initially joined the Giallorossi on a six-month loan in January, but hopes of a permanent transfer looked to have ended earlier this week when the deadline for the capital club to sign him outright for an agreed fee passed without resolution.
However, talks restarted soon after and the club have now confirmed via an official statement his permanent acquisition, with the total fee agreed suggestive that Roma successfully negotiated a reduction of €1m.
“AS Roma S.p.A announces that it has exercised the option to purchase outright the registration of the player Marco Antonio De Mattos Filho (Marquinho), with the recognition in favour of FC Fluminense a fee of €3.5m.
“The first instalment, amounting to €2m, will be paid by July 10, 2012 and the second, of €1.5m, by no later than July 10, 2013. With the player, the club has signed a contract until June 30, 2016.”
