Sampdoria have confirmed that Ciro Ferrara will be their new Coach – but it will take a little bit more time to make his appointment official.
“We will announce the eventual capture of Ferrara in the space of the next 24 hours,” Sampdoria sporting director Pasquale Sensibile stated on Monday morning.
“There are still a few situations to sort out between the Coach and the Italian Football Federation in order to free him from his contract.”
Ferrara is the current boss of the Italian Under-21 side.
The former Napoli and Juventus defender will replace Giuseppe Iachini on the Marassi bench despite the fact that he led them to promotion.
Ferrara’s only previous Serie A coaching experience was with Juventus in the last two games of 2008-09 and then the first six months of 2009-10.
He was sacked in 2010 and in October of the same year he replaced Gigi Casiraghi within the Italian Under-21 set-up. Devis Mangia could now take the Under-21 job.
