Lorenzo Insigne will be handed an important role in Napoli’s squad next season, says his agent Antonio Ottaiano.
The 21-year-old’s devastating form on loan at Pescara last campaign has convinced Napoli to recall him, and he can expect to be thrown in at the deep end during his first season in Serie A.
Ottaiano said in an interview with Mediaset: “Napoli have confirmed their intention to use Insigne as one of their four strikers.”
His progression, after three loans in the lower Divisions, will be rewarded with a contract befitting his new squad status.
“There were some discussions that haven’t yet ended in agreement,” Ottaiano admitted. “Napoli rejected our first proposal and we rejected their first offer. Now we’re talking about it, but an agreement will eventually be reached.”
Suggestions that Napoli offered €950,000 per year were “categorically denied” by his agent.
Ottaiano did reveal that Insigne is wanted by new Sampdoria Coach Ciro Ferrara, who managed the player for Italy Under-21s.
“Ferrara told Insigne while on international duty that he would want him at whatever club he Coaches,” the agent said.
“I do not know if there has been an offer between Sampdoria and Napoli.”
Insigne is valued highly by Napoli who will use the 21-year-old to help fill the void left by the departing Ezequiel Lavezzi.
