Palermo boss Giuseppe Sannino insists he was well aware of the talent of Federico Balzaretti – even before his impressive Euro 2012.
The left-back enjoyed a good tournament as the Azzurri reached the Final of the European Championship. He has been linked with Milan, Napoli and Lazio since.
“Balzaretti will stay at Palermo,” the former Siena man told Sky Sport Italia. “He’s a great player and we didn’t need Euro 2012 to discover that.”
Sannino is the bookmakers’ favourite to be the first coaching casualty of the season, but he’s confident that he has what is needed to succeed.
“I’m happy with the squad that I have available,” he continued. “We might need a few more wide options, but I’m sure that the club are working on this.
“We have some experienced players like Fabrizio Miccoli who will be able to shine alongside talented youngsters.”
