Napoli have officially confirmed the Italian Super Cup against Juventus will be held in Beijing on August 11.
“President Aurelio De Laurentiis, after receiving assurances from the Chinese authorities, confirms that Napoli will take part in the Italian Super Cup in Beijing,” read a statement from the club website.
“We had many doubts on the organisational issues. I have been guaranteed that everything will be dealt with as we requested,” added De Laurentiis.
“I decided, out of the spirit of co-operation, to not create problems for the Lega Calcio. The team will leave for Beijing on August 5.”
The President feared it would be difficult for Napoli fans to reach Beijing for the one-off game, while he complained that the extensive journey was “too much of a stress” for the squad in pre-season.
Napoli urged the authorities to reschedule to a two-legged affair on Italian soil.
It seems that whatever De Laurentiis’ fears, they have been assuaged and the game can go ahead as planned at the Olympic Stadium.
