Sampdoria's new signing Massimo Maccarone is inspired to play for the same club as his hero Gianluca Vialli.
The 31-year-old striker left Palermo this week after being told that he was up for sale.
"It's a great moment for me seeing that I have finally arrived at Sampdoria on a permanent basis," Maccarone said.
"They are the club with whom my idol Gianluca Vialli played. For me it's a reason to be proud.
"I hope that Giampaolo Pazzini stays here for as long as possible.
"I would like to score in the derby on February 16 and also show Palermo that they were wrong to let me leave."
